“Dame Tu Pasito is a bachata party that is bridging the cap between studio trained traditional dancers and non-studio dancers from the community. The commonality between both groups is the love for the music and culture.
With a heavy focus on traditional bachata, we aim to use our platform to celebrate and centralize the Latinx experience. We noticed that the whitewashing and oversexualizing of this form is not only apparent in our city but worldwide. While we honor the techniques of bachata dance that were created in DR, we also aim to give our attendees a cultural experience.”
“Pepatian sponsored our Hora Loca segment. Hora Loca is a tradition practiced as part of carnaval festivities in the Dominican Republic. The kind of presentation we provided was one that is carried out in Santiago. We offered a genuine carnival experience to our attendees and we want to thank Pepatian for this.
In 2024, through Pepatian, I was able to receive a residency at Pregones Bronx, NYC. Dame Tu Pasito is part of my own research as a choreographer and advocate. In this residency, I explored improvisation and the societal impact of social dance. Producing these events give me first hand experience with mobilizing and inspiring the latinx people in my city. The dancers that helped to make Dame Tu Pasito happen were part in my 2024 residency.”
