BRONX ARTIST SPOTLIGHT Series |
| BRONX
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT Series As playwright Jorge Ignacio Cortinas commented, Pepatian is creating projects that are: "vibrant and life affirming, like an actual bohemia being sustained and expanded, but a better bohemia, a browner bohemia." Pepatian's Bronx Artist Spotlight series began in 1999 as the Bronx Dance Festival, a two-week dance concert curated by artistic director Merian Soto held at Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture. Since spring 2001, with the first annual Jump It Up: Bronx Artist Spotlight, the series has involved over 370 artists and over 7 performance venues and community spaces throughout the South Bronx. In 2002, Pepatian began FALL INTO IT: BRONX ARTIST SPOTLIGHT to help strengthen and support consistent performance opportunities for artists throughout the year. Pepatian Publishing: Pepatian produced SHOUT OUT, its first book and CD package featuring the work of 7 Bronx artists. The book includes the work of 5 poets (Caridad de la Luz/La Bruja, John Rodriguez, Jessica Roman, Rokafella and Victoria Sammartino), with photographs by Marisol Diaz and the CD includes the poets with DJ G-Bo the Pro if ILL-Eagle Music providing beats. Bronx Artist Spotlight series is made possible in part with a grant
from National Endowment for the Arts, public funds from the New York
State Council on the Arts, a state agency, New York City Department
of Cultural Affairs, Altria Group Inc., Association of Hispanic Arts,
Fleet Bank and JPMorgan Chase Foundation through the JPMorgan Chase
Regrant Program and the Bronx Council on the Arts, with Ford Foundation. Copyright © 2003 Pepatián. All rights reserved.
